Benidorm
Benidorm is built around a beautiful bay and boasts three miles of coastline. It has two of the best beaches in Europe, Playa de Levante (sunrise beach) and Playa de Poniente (sunset beach). There is a bay between these two beaches and a smaller beach at La Cala de Finestrat. Benidorm is backed by mountains on one side and the Mediterranean on the other and enjoys a micro-climate keeping it warm throughout the winter months.
Benidorm first came to prominence in the 1300's and traditionally its local population made their living from the sea. Benidorm entered the tourist market in the 1950's and since then has evolved into a vibrant resort with modern infrastructure and facilities. It is now the leading tourist destination on the Costa Blanca.
Benidorm has the busiest calendar of fiestas in all the province of Alicante and its night skies are regularly illuminated with spectacular fireworks displays.
Benidorm offers a varied selection of restaurants and is renowned for its nightlife, with many bars staying open until the early hours. These offer a variety of entertainment including comedy acts, dancing and musical nights. Benidorm Palace is one such venue and presents a spectacular show which can be enjoyed over a sumptuous dinner.
The area caters for many sporting activities, e.g. from golfing to water sports. For the adventurous, Benidorm now has the added attraction of a world class theme park, "Terra Mitica". There is also a large water amusement park (Aqualandia) and a marine/exotic animal park (Mundomar).
