La Nucia

Travelling inland from Benidorm for 8km you pass through the attractive little town of La Nucia. Situated on the flat land at the foot of the Forques Mountains, it has the white washed houses and narrow streets you would expect to find in a typical Mediterranean town. Most people in the area come to La Nucia on a Sunday, to stroll the streets, with their flower adorned balconies, browse through the famous Flea Market, and look at the Renaissance church, spending some time at the nearby scenic spot called Font de Favarra. This little town's recorded history dates back to 1250, when the troops of King Jaime I occupied what had been a Moorish stronghold, and it later passed into the barony of Polops, the neighboring town. In 1609, the remaining Moorish were replaced by settlers from other part of Spain, and the population continued to slowly grow to the figure of approximately 7000 people.
